I want to let you in on a little advice: take care of yourself before diving into the craziness of life. You know the spiel they give you on airplanes… Put your own oxygen mask on before helping others? Yeah, it's not just for planes—it's for real life too.
Listen up: if you're not looking after yourself, how can you expect to be there for anyone else? It's not selfish, it's survival. When you're running on empty, you're no good to anyone. So, before you start carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, make sure you've got your own back first. (Chiropractic joke.)
I'm an example of a fail in this category... but I made a change. I regularly give out advice on health, nutrition, exercise, stress, etc. But there I was, overweight, not taking care of my body and mind the way I should be, and expecting others to do so. This is 1.) hypocritical but 2.) not helpful to ANYONE. I had to sit back and realize that I needed to put MY mask on before I could help OTHERS put theirs on.
Taking care of yourself physically/mentally isn't just a luxury—it's a must. If you're not in good shape, or not in the right place mentally, how can you handle everything life throws at you? It's like trying to drive a car with a flat tire—just doesn't work.
So, before you start lifting everyone else's weights, make sure you're hitting the gym for yourself. Get those endorphins pumping, sweat out the stress, and build yourself up. Whether it is lifting, going for a run, meditation, or practicing yoga, find what works for you and make it a priority.
I get it, life's busy. But trust me, making time for your physical/mental health will pay off big time. You'll have more energy, more resilience, and you'll be able to handle whatever comes your way like a boss.
Promise me you'll make self-care a priority. You deserve it. And hey, if you need a reminder, just hit me up. We're all in this together.
Take care of yourself,
Dr. Max
